The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2024 highlights a positive trend in school enrolment across several North Indian states. However, despite this progress, millions of children continue to remain out of school due to persistent socio-economic challenges. Factors such as poverty, lack of educational resources, and social exclusion contribute significantly to this issue, particularly in underserved regions.
In response, the Human Welfare Foundation (HWF) has reaffirmed its commitment to educational empowerment as a pathway to social transformation. The Foundation believes that access to quality education is a fundamental right and a crucial tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. With a clear focus on bridging the educational divide, HWF has been actively implementing its School Kit Distribution Program aimed at supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
This initiative provides essential learning materials such as notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, and school bags to children who are unable to afford them. These kits play a vital role in encouraging regular school attendance and alleviating the financial burden on families. More importantly, by ensuring that children have the basic tools to participate in classroom activities, HWF aims to significantly reduce school dropout rates, particularly among the most vulnerable segments of society.
The primary areas of intervention include socially and economically backward villages, urban slums, and tribal regions, where children face multiple barriers to education. These communities often lack adequate infrastructure and support systems, making targeted educational assistance all the more critical.
In 2025, the Foundation has set a goal to distribute 1,000 school kits in these high-need areas. Alongside the distribution of kits, HWF will also provide financial assistance to the most disadvantaged children to cover additional educational expenses such as tuition fees, uniforms, and other essential materials.
Since its inception, the School Kit Distribution Program has reached over 45,000 children across 14 states, making a tangible impact by boosting school attendance, enhancing student morale, and fostering a culture of learning among marginalized populations.
Through this initiative, the Human Welfare Foundation continues to work toward its broader vision of inclusive development, where every child—regardless of socio-economic status—has the opportunity to access and benefit from quality education.
